Jakarta along with four major cities in the world, namely London, New York, Seoul and Toronto are invited to be guests at the 2019 Urban Agriculture World Summit in Nerima City, Tokyo, Japan.

Hopefully urban farming can become a lifestyle in Jakarta

Those cities welcomed by Nerima Mayor Maekawa Akio will take part in the event that has been held since November 28 to December 3.

Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security's Urban Farming Division Head Taufik Yulianto expressed it is part of the follow-up to a visit by the Nerima City delegation, led by Nerima City Office Deputy Mayor Yamauchi Takao who visited Jakarta in 2017.

During the visit in Jakarta, they had visited several urban farming locations, such as the green alley in West Jakarta, child-friendly playground (RPTRA) in South Jakarta and the use of idle land in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

"Hopefully urban farming can become a lifestyle in Jakarta," he said, Friday (29/11).

Besides him, there is also an academic Diah Meidiantie and an urban farming actor Latifah Abdul Somad and for Diah Meidiantie who were invited and funded directly by the Nerima City Government.

Therefore, for young people in big cities in the world, growing vegetables on the yard lately has slowly become popular.

"This is because, besides helping to save the economy, it's also an effort to create a beautiful environment and clean air," he stated.
